Sound Problems in Recent AV Department Video Recordings

The video archives of the Law School Convocation on August 23, 2011 and of the Clason Lecture by Jennifer Harbury on September 13 can now be watched on the law school multimedia web pages. What they do not reveal is how poor the sound quality is of the DVDs created by the AV Department (the only media by which AV is now distributing the results of its video recordings). I have prepared this page so that it is possible for interested persons to examine the sound quality of the AV Departments products. I hope that every effort will be made by AV to determine the source of the objectionable sound (undoubtedly electrical in origin) and avoid this sound in future recording efforts.

I have taken audio excerpts from the Convocation DVD as provided by AV. These are from Dr. Caprio's welcome and Justice Spina's address. I have taken from the Harbury Clason Professor Setty's introduction and Ms. Harbury's talk. I have taken similar excerpts from the videos now being streamed after I edited them to reduce the objectionable sound without destroying the essential sound of the speakers. All of these excerpts are quite brief and I hope that viewers of this page will listen first to the DVD I received from AV and then a similar excerpt from the streaming video.
